For the last decade or so Flemming Love, under the moniker of Tangibly Yes, has been experimenting and perfecting the many combinations of paint mediums into elaborate and colorful abstract pieces. Her work and techniques are much more elevated than a home splatter paint craft. Rather than blunt subjects, she really captures the motion and flow of purpose and emotion. There are definite subjects too, but depicted in a whimsical variation. On a brisk day, I visited the Tangibly Yes studio high on a mountain in Cullowhee, NC. Entering an artist's home truly gives you a magnifying glass into how this person creates and operates in their space. I notice the walls are adorned with many beautiful artifacts and interestingly to me, her own work. She paints this magnificent piece, really locking into the divergence of liquid channelled into streams and waterways of the paintscapes. "A master of viscosity" I think to myself. Later when I had a chance to sit down and talk with Love, she states that she has been recently very inspired by water and its many forms of falling and collecting into pools. Although her favorite monochromatic color to paint currently is blue. She shares,"I really enjoy when clients contact me to make a custom piece for their home and they tell me or show me a color they would like to be of focus and maybe some sort of nuance of idea, then I incorporate a contrasting pop for the zeal of it. I like meeting in the middle of what a person wants to display in their home and how I interpret the colors in the flow of it" "Are there any colors you don't like?" I ask. "Orange. I don't know why, I don't think I've ever painted a predominantly orange piece, it just doesn't vibe as much. I love metallics, and sparkles, and shiny, or porous textures. My favorite works I've done are the most porous ones. I like them to look edible too." I ask,"Would you say you are inspired by food then?" "You know when you just love something so much, you just want to consume it? I want it to look tasty and you could just eat the colors up and they will provide you with what you are seeking." Love later states that she does not endorse eating or tasting any paint products. I then understood the miniature painting hiding in the corner and the Yes arrangement in the foyer. They weren't there to for show, or just for keeping. They were her daily vitamins of color to consume and reminder of the many shades in natures flowing ways. Scanning through her portfolio, you will see she uses many sizes and types of canvas (sometimes the wood grain is appertained in the piece) and often multiple canvases to create devisions and also methinks it looks stellar to be displayed on walls. The Tangibly Yes shop is open this holiday season for fairly priced custom works.
